Italy: Rome

The grand finale of our trip was Rome. Three days to shake off the relax and get inspired, back up to urban pace, and ready to get back to work with new energy. We walked endlessly and also pretty much ate endlessly. By the plane ride home I felt like I was going to explode. But so worth it! The pasta and braised meats and all preparations of artichokes just don't disappoint. And puntarelle! And wiiiiiine. I'd love to go back to Rome. I realize that I probably say that about everywhere that I go... but I still mean it! Three days wasn't enough to discover all of its charms.

Italy: Matera

Back to Italy posts! Surprisingly, these take me a bit of time to pull together, hence the gap between them. Ha! I get distracted looking at so many photos of our trip and there are so many to edit down. But here we go!

Matera is one of the most incredible places I've ever been to. It may even be the most incredible place I've ever been to. It's OLD. Yes, there are a lot of old cities on this planet, but what tends to happen is that we tear old buildings down and build new ones in their place. A constant stripping and rebuilding which means that reminders of the past disappear. But Matera has been layering it's buildings on old ones, building out and up, instead of tearing down. So the history is still very present. And not only that, the oldest buildings are not even buildings at all- they're caves! Like, caveman caves. Caves, carved into the stone of the hillside with buildings built out from and around them. Being there was like being in the middle of the movie Labyrinth. It was SO MAGICAL. Matera has one of the oldest (If not the oldest?) recorded histories of any city. They film a lot of movies about religion and Jesus there too (in fact they were filming one while we were there), since it looks so authentically old and rustic. Ahem, because IT IS so authentically old and rustic. This UNESCO world heritage site is so completely worth visiting. It's unlike anything I have ever seen and gave such a great perspective on history. History felt very real and alive. And the food's good too! And it's a small town and fun and relaxing and you can hike the ravine. Make sure to eat a panzerotto at Sottozero!

Introducing: the FLASHY!

More exciting news! You make a really rad product and you need to photograph it so that it looks so super good for e-commerce, sales catalogs, or social media? We can help! Introducing the FLASHY commercial photo studio! Another project that has been on Scott's and my radar for sometime is setting up shop to make it really easy for people to get really great looking shots of their stuff. 2017! The year of making things ('things' being new businesses...) happen! We'd love to work with you! Reach out, we're nice, we promise!

Absolut

I love these images that Nicole Franzen and I made for Absolut Elyx over the summer. They feel so lush, a little sexy, the light pops, and the copper brings the glitz and the warmth. Also got to sample a few of those cocktails after we wrapped and, though I'm not usually a vodka drinker, they were so tasty. Can't argue with a cocktail after work... Also, when is February going to be over? Summerrrrrr miss you.

Our Wedding

Getting married was the most amazing and intense thing I've ever done. It is so emotionally overwhelming, in the best possible way, but unlike anything I've ever felt. So much attention, so much love, so much stimulation, it doesn't stop, you never get a down moment or a breath, in fact, you start to think that maybe you can't keep up, and then it's over in a flash. I cried. A lot! Hahaha. My eyes the next day... ouch. And though we got married back in October, I am just getting around to posting this now, maybe for those reasons. It's a lot to process. It's a lot of feelings. And there are so many photos and they are all so heartwarming and give me the biggest grin every time I look at them. Our photographer, Carey MacArthur, captured it all so perfectly. All the feelings come back. I now totally understand, after a lifetime of hearing what it's like to get married, what it is like to get married. Seemed like the perfect post for Valentine's day. Cheers to love, friends. It makes us better people.

All the photographs below are by Carey MacArthur. She is a fantastic person, and does fantastic work, and you should contact her if you are looking for a photographer!

Lincoln Black Label & Dreamy Photos In All Of The Blues

Sharing some images here that I worked on for Lincoln Black Label with Laure Joliet. This art direction, by Patty Brinkmann, was a dream and brought together all the things that fuel my professional inspiration. So many facets of my career and talents coming into play in one job. It was rooted in my favorite color palette, I got to use my fashion background, build a living room from scratch, explore luxury textures, and style a parts model. I love the path I'm on. I've missed my days in the fashion closet at magazines, but I do love lifestyle and interiors. Now that the two paths are starting to converge I see a whole new world of possibilities where my talents and interests can live together, instead of exclude each other.
